2005 Pax Syrah, Kobler Family Vineyard, Russian River Valley
This bio-dynamically farmed Green Valley Vineyard saw the most variation of any vineyard in our stable in 2005. So
much in fact, we dropped ALL of the grapes off of over 15% of the Syrah vines in order to capture the essence of the
strengths this vineyard has, but has struggled to show. The Kobler Viognier crop was a success and we co-fermented
10% with the Syrah. The results are dramatic and obvious in this singular expression of cool climate Syrah. Always
one of the most approachable to drink upon release, we think that the wines from this vineyard will show more of
their old world character with age and more flashy-sexy fruit in their youth.

Tasting Note:
Black tar, green olives and anisette brighten the brooding boysenberry and raspberry compote filled aromas. The nose
is unmistakable cool-climate Syrah, with the addition of tiny blue-berries spiked with ultra-ripe grapefruit juice
and coffee grounds. Thick and creamy in the mouth with mouth-watering acidity, this wine always walks the line
between new and old world. The finish is thick and intense. Tannins, fruit and acidity come together perfectly
in a hugely thick and concentrated wine that behaves like a French wine on your palate. The finish on this wine is
astounding!!
